I took my vehicle to Maaco Auto Painting at 1321 Diamond Springs Road, Virginia Beach Virginia early this fall. The sales person, by the name of Sean, promised me quality body work and a factory finish paint job. I paid the full price of $700 for one of the best paint jobs offered by Maaco (Sean claimed to have given me a discount). They had my car ready for me a week later. When I picked it up it actually looked pretty good, but I notice a thin layer of dust that covered my car and a couple of cars parked next to it. I found this unusual because when I picked up cars in the past from recently having body and paint work done on themโ€ฆthey were clean as a whistle with proud paint technicians waiting for your praise- for the hard work they preformed on your car. I know now it was placed by the individuals running Maaco to cover up their sloppy unprofessional job during a sunny day (my new paint service guy told me the tricks of the trade!!). I"หœm an individual that hates to complain, moreover, I have had over 8 cars in my life repainted for personal wants or because my car was damaged in an accidentโ€ฆMaaco without a doubt is the worst paint job any of my vehicles have ever received.

The icing on the cake; I toke it back, with a smile on my face, and asked them politely to fix the obvious DAMAGE they did to my car ( pits like a orange peel all over the car, finger prints in the paint, even dirt being washed away from under the paint they applied!!!). To my astonishment they unkindly made faces and started pouting like small children in kindergarten - for politely asking them to fix basic screw ups!! It was unbelievable!! In addition, there was another customer there that was complaining a part of his car was missing from his hood?!!! When I picked it up the second timeโ€ฆit still was in poor shape. I just grab my keys and left. I thought to myself, "If these guys are as low as they actโ€ฆthey could really put a hurting on my wheels!" I just bit the bullet and acknowledged that I was an *** for thinking I could get a good paint job for 700+ bucks!! NEVER AGAIN!! Again, I hate complainingโ€ฆactually I never complain about matters of this nature, but these guys are a joke!!

Do yourself a favor and save up and pay for a professional paint job!! Do some footwork and ask around for quality paint shops that can paint your wheelsโ€ฆtake your time, and make sure they have a top notch state of the art facility to do the work! You will be surprise what a tiny piece of dust can make your car look like!!

You get what you pay for

I had the same problem with the Chesapeake Maaco. The paint job looks great from a distance, but when you got close it had runs, fish eyes, orange peel and dirt in the pain.

I paid $1,000 for my lousy paint job. So far I've convinced three people not to go to Maaco.

Part II

I should of mentioned, the price of the "pain" job should of been 299.00, but I told him I wanted the best one which was 1000+ but he gave me a discount.

And for all you guys that are happy with Maaco - that's great. I had three of my cars painted by Maaco without any issues. The forth/fifth time I went to a maaco - they sucked!!! There is absolutely no way to rationalize large pitting, finger prints in the paint, and a TWO TONE black paint job. Anyone who tries to defend this has a low IQ or is pals with the shop in which I speak of. Just saying...be warned!

Spent over $2000 for what I was told would be a better then show room finish. There is a new ding, pits or flea bites all over, drips from the over coat and worst of all ripples in the paint as if it had been sprayed on by someone who had no clue how to use spray paint.

Was told they "missed that ding" after I was charged $200 for 10 other dings, most of which were so tiny I couldn't even see them. How could they miss this one? It was huge! I even told them to take care of any they might find.

This one was not there when I took it in or I would have seen it. It is VERY noticeable. I can live with the ding, it's the extremly poor paint job that they say will last 15 years, the life of my car! I have to live with that forever.

Wish I had know how bad they were at painting. Would have taken it elsewhere. What is this world coming too? No pride in the job done.

Hire people who can paint! Go elsewhere people, you will be glad you did!

I had my car painted at this maaco, and it came out wonderful from sky blue to black.

Of course the salesman would be on here defendin himself, listen buddy, this isn't the first customer to complain. I was considering MAaco for just painting the front end of my truck, I sanded it down and did all the prep work, its ready for painting.

But after having read this, and many other reviews, I will NOT be taking it to maaco, even if my truck is old. I want it done Right.

Hello? If you look close All cars have orange peel when they are purchased new.

Alot of people out there don't know what orange peel is so they don't notice it. I suggest you take a drive over to your local dealership and take a look cause you may be surprised. Also your paint job was only $700 dollars Come on Man! What did you think you were getting with a $700 dollar paint job.

You wanted a rolex but only paid for a Casio. LMAO

I am the salesman in the above complaint. I monitor sites such as this to make sure that I have not been flagged as I take pride in my job and the satisfaction of my customers.

I was very disappointed to see that this situation has occured. I would strongly encourage the original poster to bring the car back so that I can resolve this to his/her satisfaction. I would also add that I DO NOT attempt to hide problems with dust or dirt, and I am sorry that this customer feels that they were taken advantage of as this was not the case and never has been.

I have sold thousands of paint jobs and this is the first negative internet feedback I have received. If nothing else it will help me to step up my efforts to ensure our valued customers leave satisfied.

Well, from what I saw, they offer three different kinds of paint jobs...I got mine done there and it looked great, I also paid a lot more than you did, because the same guy, sean told me the difference in the paint. I hate to be a pain but it sound like you got what you paid for...I guess you never worked in a shop before, because I was very pleased, but I also wasn't being CHEAP, with my "wheels" because I actually did care about my car. I got a base coat/clear coat and the car looks great!
