RE: Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting

Complaint:

On 3/14/08 I took my car in to be painted at Maaco and I had just had an amp and a sub-woofer speaker box installed in my trunk on 3/06/08 by another company (can provide receipt). When I took the car home the speaker wires had been cut and everything I installed had been stolen. The Maaco owner at this address claims that they lock up the car behind a gate and leave the key locked up in the building, therefore it could not have been broken into. I left Maaco my key and I have pictures that my trunk lock had not been broken or tampered with. I talked to the owner; and he said he's not willing to resolve this, to call the police. He claims the speaker was not in the trunk at all. My mother was with me at the time I dropped the car off so she can verify it was in the car. We listened to the system on the way there! Customers and employees heard the bass when I pulled up. It was not easily removable without cutting the wire and the owner of the company who installed the system can prove this. I called and reported it to police as an incident and am going to try to get in contact with a district manager at Maaco to try to resolve this. I should be able to have work done on my car without having to take out my system that was professionally put in to ensure 'someone' doesn't steal property out of my car. There was also over spray on my 2 day old chrome muffler pipe that I just added to the car (I have the receipts) so half of my muffler pipe is chrome and the other half is gold. I have pictures of this also. I put that on the car less than 2 days prior". I did not mention this to the owner because I was very concerned about the system I just had installed and want it replaced/. I work at night and picked the car up after being up the night before - I also had to pick up my kids from school, 3 boys in elementary so I was not able to go back right away.. I am very into ., especially Cadillac's and have two classics that are worth money/. They are not junkers and I have a lot of pride in my cars.. This is very evident by the way I take care of all my cars.. I've had three cars painted at Maaco in the last 4-5 years, both in Alaska and Washington - I've never had service like this from any company but I can prove my car had this system in the car when I brought it there, as well as the fact that I can prove it was taken while at Maaco!. I will never use Maaco again. EVER. 1278d77

There was no hole in the dash dumbass - the box is in the trunk!! They didn't take the stereo part out of the car. Does anyone on this site even know what they're talking about? The way the sub and amp were installed made it a permanent fixture of the car. It was not possible to take it out without cutting the wires.

And John, the car is a classic Cadillac that's worth more than most of the new cars today. So keep your ignorance to yourself. Believe me I want to go there at night and take care of it but they have my address.

Why in the *** would I tell other consumers how a business acted if they try to tell me the issue was my fault? It really sounds like three of the five comments came from the owner. There's no way a business should be able to get away with stealing from their customers. They have got to be liable if they themselves stole it.

Obviously this is dumb site to post complaints about a business. Who wants grief from other consumers?

You know, how exactly did you get the car all the way home before noticing the big empty hole in your dash? Don't you guys strive for maximum annoyance...I'm bet you reached to turn it up as soon as you started it....unless of course you already knew it wasn't there.

Your car sounds like a real piece. Instead of getting gold paint, chrome "muffler pipes," and latest audivox gear, you should just buy a decent new car.

Also, you sound far too reasonable for your type of car. Don't you know how to keep it real or on the down low or both? Whichever involves taking care of it yourself. I shouldn't have to tell you this, but it sounds like its about time you went and visited the place again, but at night this time.

Businesses like Maaco buy insurance for vehicles that are in their car/custody/control, it's like taking your suit to a dry cleaner. You should ask the owner for his insurance agents information and file a claim, including your police report. You should have a check from their insurance company within a couple months. A claims adjuster will likely come out to looks at your car and take pictures.
